Healthy way to lose weight

60 kilograms is roughly the weight of a lightweight amateur boxer, a Great Dane, and a 50-inch plasma television.

It's also how much weight Cardinia LiFE member, Mario Suban, has lost in just two years.

Mario’s story:

About 2 years ago, weighing 155kgs, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea. I was told to sleep with a CPAP machine, which forces my airways to stay open.

When Cardinia LiFE opened, I saw the step towards getting my life back, a pathway to a healthier lifestyle which I wanted to adopt for the rest of my life.

I started slow and worked up to the cross-trainer. This blew off lots of calories (and fat) and combined with a healthier attitude to food, the weight started to drop off. Within months I felt fit enough to get back on my bike. I now ride to the Centre, work out, then ride home.

Now I weigh in at 95kgs. Through it all, Cardinia LiFE’s staff (from Sarah at Reception, to Rebecca the Trainer and even Annette the cleaner!) have been incredibly supportive, always making sure I am not going beyond my limits, but encouraging me also.

As a result, the whole family now embraces a healthier lifestyle and we understand being physically active is as much a part of life as eating and sleeping.
