As a swimming teacher with the Y, you’ll teach skills for life. You’ll deliver fun and interactive lessons, promote water safety and boost the confidence of children and young people.

How to become a swimming teacher

Complete a swimming teacher course

Not already qualified? We can help you get started with paid training!

We’ll support you by covering the cost of your training with a nationally registered organisation such as AUSTSWIM, Life Saving Victoria or Swim Australia.

Train with us

You’ll need to get some industry experience as part of your qualification requirements, so you can be the best swimming teacher possible!

Become a member of our team and start paid work immediately as a trainee teacher completing your in-pool practical training.

We’ll provide all of the support you need to succeed.

Become a swim teacher!

Once you’ve completed your qualifications and training, you’ll get your swimming teacher license.

You're then a fully qualified member of the team and can take on your own students, sharing all of your newly discovered skills and knowledge about swimming.
